The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), local air operators, and training organizations participated in a three-day Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) Workshop held at the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) in Pasay City, from 27-29 February 2024.

The workshop, which focused on CBTA and Evidence-Based Training (EBT), was led by resource persons and experts from the French Directorate General for Civil Aviation (Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile, DGAC) and Airbus.

Aiming to raise awareness about the application of CBTA-EBT, participants gained insights from the expertise of the French DGAC and Airbus who shared their experience in implementing CBTA-EBT, as well as in supporting international working groups and regulatory authorities.

Supported by the ICAO, the CBTA has been evolving within the international aviation landscape since its introduction with the Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) standard in 2006.

These standards align with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Total Systems Approach (TSA), advocating for the consistent application of CBTA across all aviation disciplines throughout a pilot’s career. The workshop presents a valuable opportunity for air operators to learn, share, and contribute to efficient training and assessment for a continued safe air transport in the Philippines.
