05 June 2024

Quezon City – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) highlighted its initiatives to enhance airports nationwide and its collaboration with international civil aviation counterparts to improve air quality services in the Philippines at the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas event held yesterday, June 4.

Representing CAAP at the forum were CAAP Deputy Director General for Operations Captain Edgardo Diaz, Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun Lucas, and Aerodrome Development and Management Service Assistant Director General Col. Valentino Dionela.

DDGO Capt. Ed Diaz discussed CAAP’s upcoming international engagements, such as the much-anticipated 59th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA) to be held in the country this October, which will bring over 400 delegates. He also mentioned CAAP’s chairmanship of Asia/Pacific Air Navigation Planning and Implementation Regional Work Group (APAPIRG) and the recently concluded Cooperative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Programme – South East Asia (COSCAP SEA) in April.

“Ang Standards and Recommended Practices po ay nakukuha po natin from the ICAO, yung mga associations po ng Aviation. Mahalaga po sa atin yan sapagkat kapag alam natin na tumupad po tayo diyan sa mga SARPs malalaman at makikita natin na we are at par with other nations.”, Capt. Diaz added.

Similarly, DDGA Atty. Danjun Lucas emphasized the importance of PPP projects at airports, such as the ongoing initiatives at Laguindingan Airport, Bohol-Panglao International Airport, and Iloilo Airport.

“Nagkakaroon din po tayo, of course because of the limited budget ng ating mga government agency, nagkakaroon tayo ng prioritization. Ngayon po pag pumasok ang private sector, malaki po yung capital investment naitutulong nila para mas mapaganda ang ating paliparan. Hindi lamang ito nalilimitahan sa ating passenger terminal building kasama din po yung improvement sa technology”, Atty Lucas explained.

While the PPP process at Iloilo Airport is still being finalized, ADMS Chief Col. Dionela clarified that CAAP aims to deliver three chillers to Iloilo Airport this June, once their inspection in Japan is completed.

Simultaneously, CAAP area and airport managers actively participated in regional Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas events, discussing significant airport improvements in their respective areas that will greatly benefit passengers and the country.
