In support of the 59th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA) happening this October, whose theme, “Shaping the Future of Aviation: Sustainable, Resilient, and Inclusive,” aims to put focus on aviation’s efforts towards an eco-friendly future, CAAP initiated a tree planting activity on Friday, May 31.

The theme highlights the significant role of the aviation sector in creating a sustainable aviation industry through the adoption of renewable sources of energy, efficiency in the airport and air traffic operations management and fleet modernization.

29 pine tree seedlings donated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) were planted by CAAP, led by Director General Captain Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo. The activity was done as part of the culminating activity for the first localized Leadership Course (LDR) held outside the Authority’s training arm, the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC).

Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Atty. Roberto C.O. Lim, CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun G. Lucas, Assistant Director General II for Aerodrome Development and Management Service (ADMS) Col. Valentino A. Dionela, AFP (Ret), Assistant Director General II for CAAP Security and Intelligence Service MGen. Ricardo C. Banayat, AFP (Ret), also participated in the tree planting activity.

This initiative supports CAAP’s commitment with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Long Term Aspirational Goals (LTAG) of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and the country’s State level commitment through the National Determined Contribution under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in reducing 75% of green house gas emissions  by 2030.
