Davao – An outbound passenger was arrested for making a bomb joke at Davao International Airport on May 3, Friday.
According to the Davao International Airport Police Station, a 42-year-old man was at Counter 8 of an airline check-in counter, preparing to board Flight TR361 bound for Singapore, when he made a bomb joke, stating, “Wala ni mabuak diri Ma’am, bomba lang, ay joke lang Ma’am, sorry, Ma’am” (“There are no fragile items inside Ma’am, only a bomb, joke only Ma’am, sorry, Ma’am.”)
Following the incident, the customer service agent proceeded to inquire about the baggage of the passenger who was traveling with three others but the 42-year-old man insisted that it was merely a joke.
Subsequently, the concerning information prompted the customer service representative to alert airport security. The Davao International Airport Police Station (DIAPS) promptly intervened and arrested the passenger for violating Presidential Decree 1727, also known as the Anti-Bomb Joke Law.
The arrested individual was taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for a medical examination and subsequently transferred to the Sasa Police Station for temporary detention. The station is currently preparing a case for the violation of the Anti-Bomb Joke Law for the respondent’s inquest.
In relation to this, the public is reminded that Presidential Decree No. 1727 imposes a penalty of imprisonment for not more than five (5) years, or a fine of not more than forty thousand pesos (P40,000.00) for bomb jokes.
