On 23 April 2024, the Philippines, through the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and in collaboration with the EASA – European Union Aviation Safety Agency, hosted the Third ICAO-EASA Forum on Civil Aviation in Southeast Asia at the Hilton Manila, Pasay City.

The third iteration of the forum, organized by the ICAO – International Civil Aviation Organization, gathered 83 participants from civil aviation authorities, aviation industry leaders, and development partners to engage in discussions focusing on “Safe and Sustainable Connectivity in South East Asia.”

Present in the high-level forum were CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo, ICAO Asia and Pacific Regional Office (APAC RO) Regional Director Mr. Tao Ma, EASA Representative in Singapore Mr. David Waller, and DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista who attended as the forum’s keynote speaker.

In his speech, DOTr Secretary Bautista urged the participants to not let aviation’s post-pandemic growth to dissipate, saying that the continued expansion of the sector is “our joint responsibility, our shared commitment.”

The forum addressed topics relevant to the development and improvement of aviation safety in South East Asia within the context of achieving the commitments of the Beijing Declaration, connectivity and regional integration, as well as sustainable aviation.

The previous ICAO-EASA Forum on South East Asia was held in Vietnam in 2019.
